St. Paul Police Band

The Saint Paul Police Band was formed in 1923 by a trio of Saint Paul Police Officers. The band has an interesting history by serving in the capacity of public relations for the Saint Paul Police Department. Among the highlights, the Police Band performed for the arrival of John Philip Sousa as he arrived at the St. Paul Union Depot in 1925. The Police Band marched him to the auditorium where his band performed a concert. In appreciation, Sousa presented a flag to the Police Band. This flag was later donated to the Sousa Memorial located at the Foshay Tower in Minneapolis.

The band performs in several concerts throughout the Saint Paul metropolitan area and in ceremonial events for the Saint Paul Police Department annually. The band also marches in a number of regional community festival parades during the year.

The Saint Paul Police Band was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2008. They were also recognized by the Chief of Police with a unit citation for the work the Police Band has done in representing the Police Department.
